This is another of the three murals that I painted for Scholastic on the brick wall connected to their roof. It is also derived from images in a book called David Goes to School by David Shannon, [NO DAVID (c) & TM David Shannon. All rights reserved]. The selection and layout of all these murals is by Paula Scher of Pentagram. It is painted with Keim mineral based stain on raw brick.
Paula Scher of Pentagram designed and painted the original artwork for two murals at the Metropolitan Avenue School in Forest Hills, Queens. I and my crew hand painted this mural on panels in the studio and then installed them on site. It is a map of New York City that covers all four walls of the solarium room that it is in. A similar mural in the same building is a map of Queens with the place names being in many different langauges and alphabets to reflect the extraordinary ethnic diversity of Queens.
